Steve Grismore Bio
Steve Grismore, is an adjunct jazz instructor of Jazz Studies at Augustana College (Rock island, Ill) and the University of Iowa (Iowa City). A prolific performer, Grismore has been playing guitar for over 40 years and has degrees from G.I. T and The University of Iowa (B.M. and M.A.)
He has recorded three nationally distributed CDs for the Accurate label (Boston) with the “Grismore/Scea Group”, the first two cd’s “Just Play” and “ Of What” included both Matt Wilson and Tim Hagans. The most recent cd “Well Behaved Fish” was released on April 11, 2006 and features Brent Sandy on trumpet, Anthony Cox on bass and Marc Gratama on Drums. Steve has also recorded six cd’s with Iowa’s very own salsa band, "Orquesta Alto Maiz" and 3 cd’s with the group “Oddbar” which includes Jim Dreier, Brent Sandy, and Mark Urness. Currently Steve is performing with his own trio, the JohnShultz Organization, Brent Sandy Quartet, the Oddtones Brass Band, and a newly formed rock band, The Beaker Brothers.
Additionally, he has recorded and/or performed with such jazz greats as, Charlie Haden, Ray Anderson, Corey Christiansen, Robin Eubanks, Bobby Shew, Steve Swallow, Caral Bley, Paul Smoker, Sex Mob, Vinny Golia, Kenny Wheeler, Mike Lee, Jeff Coffin, Damon Short, Ryan Shultz, Kim Richmond, John Daniel, Dane Richeson, John Carlson, Johhny Rabb, Victor Mendoza, John Rapson and many more. He is also the co-founder and current Musical Director of the nationally recognized Iowa City Jazz Festival.
